“At Alternative to Meds Center I was introduced to the phrase “knowledge is power” which is something I truly believe in, especially after my journey of mental health recovery.”

Prior to coming to Alternative to Meds Center I was on AbilifyProzac, and Deplin. I stopped taking my medications before coming to Alternative to Meds Center, and yes, I did struggle with medication withdrawal prior to coming to Alternative to Meds Center, but that’s not why I came here. I literally immersed myself in the program, baring my insecurities along the way.

On medications, specifically Abilify, I was tired, overweight and disconnected. As a vibrant person, this was an incredible challenge to endure on a day to day basis. My creativity declined, becoming non-existent. I was impulsive. I felt the medication made me someone I was not.

I don’t blame the doctors or the medication for my previous state by any means. They did the best they could, as did I.

At Alternative to Meds Center I was introduced to the phrase “knowledge is power” which is something I truly believe in, especially after my journey of mental health recovery.

Life before Alternative to Meds Center was kind of like a really bad movie that you wish you never spent the time watching.

I stopped taking my medication myself. I know this is really not suggested by the medical field. I felt the tiredness go away and the fog was lifted. I felt like I was experiencing life for the first time, not to say I didn’t experience hardships, and I did put my family through hell.

Part of me thinks doing what I did was the right thing to do, so that I could focus on my personal healing journey at Alternative to Meds Center and continue when I go home.

I especially have to thank the staff. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have achieved here at Alternative to Meds Center.
